At least 11 people were killed in Somalia’s southern port city of Kismayo on Saturday in a suicide bomb attack that targeted a military camp, according to a local security official.
The mission said two terrorists who were in the vehicle with the explosives were also killed during the attack at the army training school located at the old airport in Kismayu. The Somali army is training recruits from the regional administration in Kismayo, which is described at one of al-Shabab’s last strongholds in Somalia.
MOGADISHU-At least four people have been killed and seven others wounded after deadly auto bomb hit a restaurant popular with government soldiers in Mogadishu, witnesses said.
Islamist militant group al Shabaab has lost control of most of their territories to African Union troops in recent years but they stepped up attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere. Somali officials said at least 10 soldiers were killed in that attack, for which al-Shabab claimed responsibility.
“The incident is still being investigated to establish how the suicide bomber managed to pass by several checkpoints outside the camp”, he added.

No global agency has yet confirmed the number of dead, but news outlets have reported a significantly lower number than the one claimed by al-Shabab.
