Shah, along with four colleagues, was stuck in the lift for 20 minutes between the ground and the first floor before the Central Reserve Police Force began a rescue operation that ended up taking another half an hour. There was no lift operator or person capable of handling such emergency situation around.

As the word spread, the twitteratis swung into action with their own set of comments which went heywired among the social media animals. Shah’s security in charge, CRPF deputy commandant Sanjeev Choudhary was also with him in the fully-automated lift with a load carrying capacity of 340kg.

But as nobody responded from the number, his security personnel finally made a decision to break the lift and rescue them. The steel doors of the lift have been torn a part to get the leaders out.

Blaming the state government for the incident, state BJP chief CP Thakur said “conspiracy” can not be ruled out. Shah, who was here in connection with a non-political function on Thursday and also to assess the state BJP’s preparedness for the assembly polls, left for Delhi around 9.30am on Friday. “It is a gross dereliction of duty and irresponsibility shown by the people responsible for facilities at the state guest house. There was nobody present there to deal with such emergencies despite the fact that a person having Z+ security cover was staying there”, said Pandey. Principal Secretary Cabinet Coordination Shishir Sinha, who had visited the state guest house after the episode with Secretary Information and Public Relations Department Pratyay Amrit, said, “Prima facie overloading appears to be the cause of the incident”.
