Everton’s Tim Howard: John Stones will be “brilliant”

Everton chief scout Kevin Reeves has kept tabs on Funes Mori, who will provide back up to defensive pair Phil Jagielka and John Stones.

“But our focus is only the games. In a saga that has been happening for I don’t know what number of weeks now, we’re very clear”.

Midfielders Muhamed Besic and Kevin Mirallas could play on Sunday after being unused substitutes in the Southampton game following hamstring and ankle problems respectively. It leads to uncertainty and that isn’t fair on players. “We should get rid of the circus and make sure all business is done before the start of the season so that all the entertainment comes from the football“.

The toughest of several stern early-season tests awaits Everton on Sunday with visitors Manchester City yet to concede and emphatically brushing aside West Brom and Chelsea in the first two matches.

Thomas Muller says he is “quite relaxed” about reports linking him with a “crazy” £71million move from Bayern Munich to Manchester United.

“And let’s face it, he has now got a load of trophies because he went to City”.

“I don’t think the [Chelsea] manager is completely stable at the moment, he is going through a really hard period, and he is better staying at Everton for another season”.

“John is a very good player“, Howard told Sky Sports News.

I am taller than them, I am bigger than them so I am not scared.

Concerns have been raised suggesting that if Stones leaves Everton too soon, he could find his development begins to stagnate if there are not enough regular playing opportunities. “You have to look at these players and compare yourself”.

Amid the varying views on what is best for the young defender and where his immediate future should lie, there is one person maintaining the level-headedness lacking elsewhere.
