Manziel: ‘I’m trying to make an impression’

Head coach Mike Pettine declined to get into specific injury details following the game but is expected to provide an update Friday.

After Josh McCown led the Cleveland offense for the entire first half, the reins were handed over to the Heisman victor in the second half. “There’s an even bigger drop-off to what they’re playing against”, Pettine explained after the game. “With the guys we had injured, with a new coordinator, teams really havent built a book on us over past years. There was not a lot of heavy game planning done for these first two.

Due to injuries, the Browns were missing Pro Bowl cornerback Joe Haden (hamstring) and six other defensive backs. For the Browns, QB Josh McCown had probably his worst day of the offseason, going 7-of-10 for 57 yards with 3 sacks and 2 interceptions. If he can impress again for a full game, McCown might actually have a threat to his starting position. Sure”, he said. “It’s not my call, and if that decision does come, I’ll be ready to hop in there.

“Our protection wasnt what it should be. (But) the things that stopped us were my mistakes that I feel like I can fix. Were in a results business, and, unfortunately, he had the one tipped interception. He briefly wandered into Buffalo’s offensive huddle before the Browns sent him for an evaluation.

“That’s definitely not my words I’m going to use, just “putting heat” on Josh”, said Manziel. After the game concluded, the Redskins announced Griffin suffered a concussion. That to me comes down the road.

“I’m still going out trying to play my best and make an impression”.

In fact, in Thursday night’s loss to E.J. Manuel and the Buffalo Bills, Manziel made possibly the best throw I’ve see him make yet as a professional as he avoided pressure, rolled to his left, and threw a ball across his body deep downfield for a completion.

“That’s a lesson that we’d rather learn in the preseason than in the regular season”.

The coaches who do not want to start Taylor have argued that Cassel has been a very consistent player throughout his career. I don’t want to speculate moving forward. “He’s good to go”. There were some holes there. “Until the league makes us tell them, we can just go right up in there and say, ‘We’re not gonna say anything”. We pulled some of the linemen out but kept the first receivers in to get him in there with that group. Overall, I think he made strides, was still calm in the pocket. Manziel was sacked once and rushed three times for 19 yards. Williams in turn has forty yards rushing on 14 carries, producing one touchdown.
