And here’s the announcement of the announcement, made by Pokémon CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara.

Today, a Pokken Tournament exhibition will take place at the Pokémon World Championships. The fighter launched in Japan this summer.

The game is being developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the same studio behind such fighting game greats as Tekken and Soulcalibur. Obviously, on the Wii U this system could be accommodated by DLC. It hasn’t been revealed if or how the Wii U version will differ from the original arcade release, but it is confirmed for a worldwide release next spring. At the time, the publisher said the game would only be available as an arcade machine, but we all knew that was a half-truth at best. Besides, who could resist the urge to take Libre Pikachu into the ring!
