Nine others are believed to have died in the crash, including personal trainer Matt Jones, 24, from Littlehampton.

Mr Hill is a former RAF pilot.

The pilot was flown to the Royal Sussex Hospital, where he is in a critical condition and fighting for his life, Superintendent Jane Derrick, from Sussex Police, said. Tributes have been paid to him on Brighton fans’ website North Stand Chat this morning.

“It is hard to the find the right words to express the full extent of our shock and sadness at this time, but Matt and Jacob’s family and friends are very much in our thoughts – along with all those who’ve been affected by this awful tragedy”.

The plane plummeted on to the A27 and burst into a huge fireball, ploughing across the busy road just yards from cars and a group of people. “In his 23 years we can honestly say he never lost his temper”.

Worthing United chairman Steve Taylor said the club was “devastated” by the loss.

“They were both essential members of last seasons double winning squad, the most successful season in the clubs history”.

“If you do have anything that you think may be of use, please let us know by emailing [email protected].police.uk, but please do not attach the files at this time”.

“We’re a football family on the South Coast so we’re all trying to pull together”.

“My thoughts go out to the entire Grimstone family and those of his team mate Jacob Schilt who also was unfortunately involved yesterday”.

“He became an apprentice groundsman in 2013, and was given a full-time role with the grounds team having successfully completed his apprenticeship.

Three of the seven people killed in Saturday’s Shoreham air show crash have been identified in reports.

Meanwhile, the fiancee of a motorcyclist who was believed to have been on the A27 highway during the time of the airshow has appealed to people on Facebook to contact her if they have any details of her partner’s whereabouts. One of those injured was released from hospital last night.

The driver of a vintage wedding limousine, a motorcyclist and two cyclists are also feared dead.

A steady stream of people, mostly in ones and twos, came to leave tributes to those affected by the tragedy.
