The fire, dubbed the Summit fire, was burning near Snow Summit Ski Resort south of Big Bear Lake shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Summit Fire was first reported at 12:25 p.m. and water tankers have been requested to help in the firefight, according to the U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Carol Underhill. It’s burning at a “moderate rate of speed in moderate to heavy fuels”, the agency reported.
It is 80 degrees at the fire site, with 17 percent humidity and 12 miles per hour winds blowing from the north, National Weather Service data shows. Between 400 and 500 homes are being threatened by the blaze, according to fire officials.
The American Red Cross was in the process of setting up an evacuation shelter at the Big Bear Convention Center, 42900 Big Bear Blvd., Underhill said.
Forest Roads 2N06 (Radford), 1N54 (Clarks Grade), 2N93 (Wildhorse) have been closed, according to inciweb. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Update: According to a report from the San Bernardino Sun, the fire has now grown to 25 acres.
