In his fourth major-league start, Severino earned his first win and enjoyed the run support the Yankees’ offense gave him in a 6-2 victory over Cleveland at Yankee Stadium on Saturday. Indians manager Terry Francona argued, the umpires discussed the play, upheld the call, and Francona was ejected because he continued to argue. After a two-out double by Carlos Beltran, Bird went the other way and lined a hit of his own to left, allowing Beltran to score (albeit super awkwardly because he’s an old man now) and knotting the game at one.

He was the sixth Cleveland pitcher to finish with two hits or less in at least seven innings this season but the first to do it against New York since Bartolo Colon on September 18, 2000.
The game got off to a slow start as both pitchers were flawless through the opening inning. “I’ll tell you what he’s done a pretty good job”. “Obviously, it’s a good sign that we have him on the field to do some stuff, but it’s still not where it needs to be”, manager Joe Girardi said before the game. He hasn’t allowed a run in his past nine appearances, a stretch of 10.2 innings during which he has 11 strikeouts while allowing two walks and four hits.
