Hurricane Danny continues to weaken
As of Sunday afternoon, it’s packing winds of 50 miles per hour making it Tropical Storm.

“
Strong southwesterly winds aloft and a stable air mass are expected to cause Danny to continue losing strength during the next several days”,
forecaster John Cangialosi said.
Tropical-storm-force winds are expected within portions of the warning area by late tonight.
It was moving toward the west-northwest at 10 miles per hour (17 kph) but was expected to increase its forward speed slightly later Saturday, the center said.
Islands predicted to be directly impacted by Danny include Barbuda, Montserrat, Antigua, Nevis, St. Kitts, and Anguilla.
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – A weakening Tropical Storm Danny swirled toward the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, where a prolonged drought has led to hopes that it would bring rain.
Danny will fall to Tropical Storm status by Sunday or Monday. Although it’s poorly organized, there is still some potential for tropical or subtropical cyclone development during the next couple of days as the system moves generally northward. The area of low pressure is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
Danny’s promise of precipitation is a mixed blessing for Puerto Rico, as the island has been incredibly parched since May. These locations are all now under tropical storm warnings and are expected to bear the brunt of Tropical Storm Danny’s impact. It was moving toward the west near 15 miles per hour (24 kph). Neither feature poses a threat to the U.S., at least right now.
Forecasters on Sunday said Danny was maintaining its intensity for now, and that a lot of lightning was noted near its center of its circulation.

Even with El Nino developing, which tends to greatly reduce the number of Atlantic hurricanes, it only takes one big event to make it a “bad” hurricane year. Most models forecast that Danny will pass over the southern Bahamas by Friday.
