Heights don’t bother me too much.
A daredevil has set the record for the highest ever cliff jump – after leaping 192 feet into water below.
“With more space I could have even done a somersault”. From almost 200 feet up, Schaller was jumping into an 8-meter deep pool of aerated water.
The worst outcome would have been for Schaller to hit the water with his back or bottom, risking serious injury or even paralysis. First, Schaller and his team built a platform to give him a clean, controlled exit, with enough projection to clear the rock wall. “Once you get above 25m, everything starts to look and feel the same”, he says.
But the Brazilian, who was wearing a head camera, probably knew the Cascata del Salto jump would be straight forward because he’d done that kind of thing before.
Schaller’s team aerated the water to cushion his impact, but the daredevil overshot his mark and landed in the harder water close to the center of the pool.

He slightly dislocated his right hip, but that didn’t stop him from climbing out of the pool with a huge smile on his face after completing the jump.
