Hurricane Danny forms in the Atlantic; 1st of the season

Danny is a tiny hurricane with hurricane force winds only extending outward up to 10 miles from its center.

Danny is now 1,090 miles east of Windward Islands, and moving west-northwest at 12 mph. This storm still has days to go before it poses any threat to even the Caribbean.

The Atlantic just got its first official hurricane of the ocean’s 2015 season in Hurricane Danny, but it is dwarfed by a storm brewing in the Pacific.

Of the six to 10 named storms for this season, one to four storms are likely to become hurricanes in 2015. “Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 miles per hour (130 km/h) with higher gusts”.

11 a.m. update: Hurricane Danny now a Category 2 storm.

Hurricane Danny continued to plow Thursday toward the Leeward Islands, but little has changed from earlier forecasts and little more is known about its eventual destination.

After hitting the islands, forecasters say Danny could continue on toward Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic by the middle of next week.

During an El Nino season, the global weather patterns tend to suppress the formation of Atlantic hurricanes.

A possible Hurricane Danny projected path could be coming later this week.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration cautioned that the compact size of the hurricane makes it hard to predict, and that Danny is subject to fluctuations in strength, both up and down.

“On the expected track it could be in the vicinity of the Bahamas by early Tuesday after turning into a hurricane around 2pm on Friday”.

As previously reported by the Inquisitr, forecasters have been monitoring Danny as the storm strengthened.

Also on the radar of hurricane forecasters are three systems that could develop into stronger storms in the next few days.
