Straight Outta Compton Leads Box Office Sales For the Second Weekend

(Radio.com) Following a barrage of accusations that the N.W.A. rapper and Straight Outta Compton producer assaulted numerous women in his troubled past, Dr. Dre is finally making a statement to the press.

The movie, named after the 1988 studio album that gave birth to the gangsta rap genre, appears to have struck a chord at a time when protests over racism and police shootings are back in the headlines.

New releases “Sinister 2“, “Hitman: Agent 47” and “American Ultraall performed below projections, and came behind “Compton” and Tom Cruise’s fifth “Mission: Impossible” movie, which is already in its fourth week in theaters.

The boys from Compton keep raking in the cash, earning $26.8 million in its second weekend and ending up in the top spot for the second time in as many weeks.

The horror flick, about a child’s nightly visitations from ghoulish kids, stars James Ransone and Shannyn Sossamon. Twenty years later, N.W.A.’s story has proven to be a massive hit for moviegoers, and the film has raked in approximately million dollars, a figure that is spectacularly close to Ant-Man’s $57.2-million opening last month.

Seventh with $4.3 million in ticket sales was psychological thriller The Gift. This puts the film’s total past the $100 million mark just nine days after its debut. The Universal comedy “Trainwreckalso passed the milestone the past weekend. The goal had been a modest $15 million.
