Premier League admits Benteke goal error

Liverpool FC’s lack of fire power upfront was touted as one of the biggest reasons for a poor season in 2014-15 when the club finished sixth in the English Premier League. The Reds won both games by a single goal and have not conceded this season. We showed that there and we took it into the Bournemouth game.

“No matter when these games come in the season, they’re always good for the psychological effect”, Liverpool manager Rodgers told his pre-match news conference. Long balls in the box, knock-downs, physicality.

It’s easy to blame the officials but it is possible they simply don’t understand the new laws and were operating under last season’s interpretation.

The 24-year-old was absolutely brilliant on his home debut for the Reds as he scored the encounter’s only goal and dominated every aspect of his game. Look for Liverpool’s midfield to try to lock down Cazorla whenever he comes in contact with the ball.

“Can he play with Benteke?”

The Premier League has confirmed that Christian Benteke’s goal for Liverpool against Bournemouth on Monday night should not have been given.

Now it is boss Brendan Rodgers doing the talking.

However, Rodgers insists he has always strove to play a style of football that is pleasing on the eye and sees no reasons why Liverpool’s new number nine should change that. “I don’t think it’s a tough one”.

“He can play football”, he added of Benteke.

“He has a wonderful touch for a big guy and can control the game”.

“When the ball is crossed in players will look to go for the ball so I think the linesman has made an excellent decision in terms of assessing very quickly there might have been an intent but there is no way Philippe Coutinho is going to get the ball”.

AG: Everton’s performance at Southampton was as good as I have seen for a couple of years. “They are the 12th man and we can use that to build and get better”.

Knock-downs in the penalty area?

Gomez admitted the players that were involved in the drubbing used it as motivation to get the win this time round.

There was a time when Rodgers worshipped at the temple of possession and panache so much that his critics argued he was forgetting about points.

The Czech Republic keeper also thwarted stand-in Liverpool captain James Milner and there were more heroics from Cech just before half-time, when he got a fingertip to a measured strike from the unsafe Coutinho which struck the far post.

Ramsey was aggrieved when he had the ball in the back of the net eight minutes later after stand-in skipper Santi Cazorla picked him out with a fine pass, but the flag was up when the midfielder appeared to have timed his run to perfection.
