Michel’le Unmoved by Dr. Dre Abuse Statement: “I Don’t Think It’s Sincere”

Here is the statement in full, via The New York Times: Twenty-five years ago I was a young man drinking too much and in over my head with no real structure in my life.

“I didn’t ask for a public apology and I think if he is going to apologise he should do it individually”.

“When you’re with someone else and they don’t hit you, then you think that maybe they don’t care about you,” she said. “To just group us like we are nothing and nobody-I just don’t think it’s honest, treat us like we have names”.

Dr Dre’s representatives said he would not comment beyond the statement sent exclusively to The New York Times.

Dr. Dre has matured, and the women he’s hurt, including myself, have endured.

The apology came about after a written report by a hip-hop journalist named Dee Barnes, who Dre attacked in 1991. “‘I deeply regret what I did and know that it has forever impacted all of our lives”.

“Compton”, his first album in 16 years, which sold over 280,000 copies and landed on the second place on music charts, went into an immediate downswing, dropping at least 85 percent, after an outcry over the rapper’s abusive behavior that was apparently left out of his new movie, “Straight Out of Compton“. “I had to cover two or three black eyes for my videos”, she said.

“One night I baked him chicken and I didn’t make enough”, she said.

“It became that kind of relationship. I ran into the women’s bathroom to hide, but he burst through the door and started bashing me in the back of the head”. She’s less concerned with why he did it and just glad he finally stepped up to say it publicly. “We just had a cycle”.

There are sprinklings of those old school references to money, crime, violence, slavery, and misogyny N.W.A were famed for, but the new generation has affected the old hands – changing up the sound with modern production and the themes with a more sophisticated lyrical approach. I’ve never stopped talking about it. That’s what’s so amusing about this coming up now.
