Kyle Allen will open season as Texas A&M’s starting QB
The Allen (Texas) High School product brings far more of a dual-threat aspect than Allen, who is more of a prototypical pocket passer. When Allen committed to Texas A&M, he was considered the No. 1 pro-style quarterback in his class, per 247Sports. That was followed by his sophomore season where his off-the-field life became a larger story than what he did on the field. Allen threw for 1,322 yards, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions in the nine games he played in. Then Hill was suspended two games for a violation of team rules. The top-ranked quarterback recruit of 2014, Allen obviously had no shortage of pedigree himself, and he showed a lot of upside by throwing for 12 touchdowns in a four-game stretch against Auburn (on the road), Missouri, LSU, and West Virginia.

But as Sumlin proved past year, the starting nod in early September doesn’t guarantee a change won’t be made later in the season. Allen returned with a familiarity of the offense and a better understanding of how to read defenses.
Kyle Allen will start at quarterback for Texas A&M in the season opener against Arizona State, and with that, the signal-caller reputed to be more like Johnny Manziel will have to wait his turn for the top job.
Allen has the job for now, but head coach Kevin Sumlin has not ruled out playing Allen and Murray.

Kyler Murray, who was the American Family Insurance ALL-USA Offensive Player of the Year last season, is the No. 2 quarterback at Texas A&M. If Allen has major struggles Murray could see extended time.
