Huge 920-pound gator captured in Alabama lake

Hunter Scott Evans from Center Point, Alabama, and friends Jeff and Justin Gregg were startled when they successfully reeled in the 13-foot, 6-inch gator from Lake Eufala during their second attempt at hooking it, AL.com reported.

“It was surreal, ” Evans said.

“It is humbling”, said Jeff Gregg.

The slippery gator got out of the first hook, and Evans’ group pursued it for another 75 yards or so before they had him hooked a second time.

“We would not have gotten that alligator in the boat had it not been for those two game wardens”, Gregg said. 5-pound gator that an alligator hunter pulled out of Meek Creek past year. And only a half-hour into the hunt, they caught something.

The colossal lizard was able to evade the hunting party, but they caught it again.

Gregg said that the alligator has been harvested for its meat – 230 pounds of it, not counting the tendons or dark meat – and the hide will be displayed by a taxidermist. And “that is when the work began”, explained Evans, a seasoned gator hunter (he’s gone gator hunting every year for the last five years, but never caught an animal this large).

“Alligators are part of the natural ecosystem of Eufaula and have been for several decades now”, Gray said. This alligator is believed to be about 60-years-old.

The gator is also the second biggest gator to ever come out of Lake Eufaula at the hands of alligator hunters, reports News Max on August 24.

Evans, Jeff, and Justin, his son, were thrilled with their record-breaking catch, which Evans told AL.com was a “team effort” that took six men, two of whom were Alabama conservation officers, to secure.
