Tennessee probably won’t have to worry about its quarterback situation for a few years.

Higgins and Johnson are Tennessee coach Butch Jones’ first two commitments for the class of 2017.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound junior is the 55th best player in the nation for the class of 2017, according to 247Sports.com, which also ranks him the fourth best player in the state of Tennessee.

Brownsburg (Ind.) High 2017 prospect Hunter Johnson gave his verbal to Vols head coach and his staff on Sunday, choosing the SEC program over his other finalists, Notre Dame and N.C. State. His hands are huge.

The Volunteers demolished a decent Iowa team in the TaxSlayer Bowl, their first bowl win since 2008, and are expected to do more in 2015. “What separates Johnson is not just his ability to throw the football, but the poise and maturity with which he handles himself and conducts his business”.

Ryan Callahan of 247Sports noted Higgins committed to the Volunteers despite scholarship offers from more than 12 other teams, including powerhouses such as Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Oklahoma.

The 6-3, 195-pound quarterback passed for 1,434 yards and 10 touchdowns last season as a sophomore at Brownsburg.

“My mom and I have been talking and it’s going to be hard for her to move to another place”, Higgins told Volquest. Higgins announced on Monday that he has committed to play football for the University of Tennessee. “It is a very special place and I am happy to be a part of it”. “When Butch Jones, Mike DeBord took over, Hunter made his way down to Tennessee seven times from Indianapolis and just built that relationship up”.
