‘Terminator: Genisys’ News: Arnold Schwarzenegger Film Garners $27.4 Million

There may be hope yet for the two planned “Terminator: Genisys” sequels due to the fact that the movie made $27.4 million in China this weekend. In first place for the second week running was “Go Away, Mr. Tumor”, based on the real-life story of a Chinese cartoonist battling terminal cancer.

Many critics concluded that because of this, the franchise had died a death, despite a more impressive global haul of $264 million. It essentially gave the reeling movie series about cyborgs a much needed shot in the arm.

This is after disappointing receipts in the US, where it scored $89 million in its whole run off the back of a $155 million budget.

Terminator Genisys“, written by Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier has generated the whopping amount at 25,000 locations in China.

While there’s still a chance that Genisys could fall off in China if it doesn’t have legs, it could still easily hit $400 million worldwide without hitting $100 million in North America.

Despite being a genuinely terrible movie, Terminator Genisys exploded at the Chinese box office, earning one of the biggest single days for an American film there in history. A China debut is slated for September 8. The Wanda Pictures film has now earned a total of $66 million. The comicbook movie snagged fourth place with $16.2 million from 65 territories.

That’s because Genisys just debuted at the Chinese box office and made $27.4 million in a single night. At the time of its release, “Transformers: Age of Extinction” was the all-time highest grossing film in the Chinese box office, a record that has now been surpassed by Hollywood film “Furious 7” and domestic film “Monster Hunt”. It has now been reported that another one is coming in May 2017.
