Butt was the captain when Asif and Amir delivered deliberate no-balls on behest of a bookmaker at Lord’s, which hosts the first test of the 2016 series on July 14.

Sri Lanka then head north to Emirates Durham before rounding up the three-match Investec series at Lord’s. In 2014, Sri Lanka celebrated their first series triumph in England with a dramatic victory at Headingley by 100 runs.

“Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka will also attract strong support from their own communities in this country, which all adds up to another exciting summer of global action played in front of packed houses for all three formats of the game”.

Ireland looked on course to win the second game after Ed Joyce scored 116 not out as they posted 229, but Pakistan recovered from 133 for 7 to win by two wickets.

The 2017 is set to see the venue welcome South Africa and the West Indies in Test and One-Day worldwide cricket respectively.

“This year’s Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley was a great success as we recorded our highest aggregate attendance for a Test Match since 2012”.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has called for fans to replicate their fervent Ashes support next summer after announcing the 2016 worldwide schedule.
