Different drivers stopped to assist Grasp Trooper Steven Vincent, a 13-year state police veteran in southwest Louisiana and member of a regulation enforcement household, stated Col. Michael Edmonson, head of state police.

Police said Vincent, 43, was shot during an altercation with a man who had reportedly been driving erratically before running his truck into a ditch.
Vincent, a 13-year-veteran of the state police force, was airlifted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where a 10:30 a.m. news conference will be held.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing and Daigle is expected to be booked on charges of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer in addition to several other related charges.
Anderson says other drivers helped the trooper, called for help using the trooper’s radio, and detained the driver.
Shot, Vincent attempted to go back to his unit to call for help, Edmonson said. This loss exacts an enormous emotional toll on the State Police family, but we will do what is necessary and proper to honor Steven and support those who knew and loved him. The trooper got to the truck at 2:43pm, Anderson said.
Currently, Vincent is in a critical condition and needs a lot of prayers to pull through.
‘You could hear him breathing, telling him, ‘You’re lucky. “Kill someone”. “You’re lucky – you’re going to die soon.’ Those are the words that came out of his mouth”, Edmonson said.
Daigle exited his truck and walked to Vincent, speaking to him and asking him if he was still alive, Edmonson said.
Mancuso said the Sheriff’s Office began investigating after the man who lives at the home did not report for work this morning.
Vincent leaves behind a wife, Katherine, and a nine-year-old son, Ethan. He asked for prayers and well wishes for the officer and his family.
State Police made the announcement Monday morning on their Facebook page. Officials have not released the video, but Edmonson said it showed that Vincent did everything right.
