Free agent guard Evan Mathis on Seahawks’ radar
The Seahawks have been a nonsensical landing spot for former Philadelphia Eagles guard Evan Mathis ever since he was released over a contract dispute in early June.

The Seahawks struggles along the offensive line have been notable since training camp began, including a uneven performance in Seattle’s first preseason game against Denver. Schefter’s report comes with a major caveat, which is that it’s uncertain whether Mathis will follow through with the visit because of interest from other teams.
PFT has confirmed that Mathis will be visiting the Seahawks.
Lets keep in mind that Mathis is considered one of the top guards in our game today, and he will not tolerate receiving chump change. In the 2014 season, despite playing just 608 snaps on offense, the former third-round pick from 2005 ranked as the NFL’s best guard, according to Pro Football Focus, who ranked Mathis no. 1 at his position in 2011, 2012, and 2013 as well. His base salary last season was $5.5 million.
After trading away Unger in the off-season the Seahawks are missing a true anchor on the o-line and Mathis seems to be the flawless match. I would be surprised with after signing Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner that we even have enough money to sign a undrafted free agent yet alone Evan Mathis! Some of that needs to be saved for bonuses and incentives for players on the roster, and they also have star safety Kam Chancellor holding out for more money right now. As talented as the Seahawks are, none of that is going to matter if the offensive line is significantly worse than last year’s shaky unit.
Seattle would make a nice fit for Mathis.
