New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas is launching an investigation on how Albuquerque Public Schools hired a high-level administrator who is facing child sex abuse charges.

The Albuquerque Journal reported (http://bit.ly/1MMwpEs) Sunday that an attorney for Karen Rudys, the district’s head of human resources, said in a letter to APS Superintendent Dr. Luis Valentino that she raised the issue six times.
Then, one of Valentino’s first hires, deputy superintendent Jason Martinez, resigned after only a few months on the job.
Valentino did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking comment Monday.
“We will work cooperatively with the AG’s Office to strengthen these processes and procedures and to ensure that they are followed with fidelity, which is in the best interest of our students, employees and community”, Valentino said in a statement.
“I’m very concerned about the allegations that safety protocols were breached at APS”, Balderas said in a statement released Monday.
Board members entered a closed-door, emergency meeting Sunday evening after several recent controversies in the school district. “I’ve chose to initiate a formal review of the matter, and I will be communicating with the district today”. Valentino accidentally sent the text to Moya, who is now on paid leave. He wrote that he was going to “go after” Moya for running “roughshot”.
Martinez was mandated for “enhanced supervision” after the 2015 domestic violence case was filed, court records show.

The Albuquerque Public Schools board will meet again later this week as they ponder the fate of the district’s superintendent.
