Charlie Blackmon led off the game with his 15th homer, and Ben Paulsen added his 10th homer in the second. From there, though, Teheran was almost spotless for a long period of time, setting down 16 of 17 Colorado hitters at one point.

Nick Markakis had three hits, including a run-scoring double in the sixth. The Rockies would threaten a bit by putting up the aforementioned run in the eighth inning, but Atlanta’s two-run advantage stood up, and the bullpen combination of Edwin Jackson and Arodys Vizcaino slammed the door for the 5-3 win.

The Atlanta Braves have moved past their worst losing streak of the season and are in a position to win a third straight home series, but getting there is probably going to require their next starter to overcome his own struggles. It was the fourth homer leading off a game for Blackmon this season and the fifth of his career. He also came an out shy of making it through five innings in his previous start, surrendering six runs and nine hits to Arizona in an 8-4 loss.

Barnes entered the sport within the sixth inning when Carlos Gonzalez was eliminated due to soreness in his proper knee. This time it was in the same city where he was a college star at Georgia Tech. Teheran (8-6, 4.32 ERA) is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in four starts this month.

Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said there is no rush to call up infielder Hector Olivera from Gwinnett. Olivera was acquired in the July 30 deal that sent left-hander Alex Wood and prospect Jose Peraza, among others, to the Dodgers. “Bourn just made a real good throw and (catcher Christian) Bettencourt made a good tag”. “And really, there’s no rush”. SS Andrelton Simmons was out of the Braves’ lineup for the second straight game because of a sore knee….

Rockies: C Michael McKenry had surgery in Denver on Monday to fix a lateral meniscus tear in his right knee.

Gonzalez said he plans to use veteran A.J. Pierzynski behind the plate on Tuesday night and give Bethancourt another start in Wednesday night’s final game of the series. The Braves’ August 7 acquisition is 6 for 9 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs in his last three games.
