Reports say Don Orsillo, who has called Red Sox games on TV for NESN since 2001, will not be back next season.
Prior to his gig with NESN, Orsillo served as the play-by-play voice of the Pawtucket Red Sox.
In his debut with NESN, Orsillo was behind the microphone calling Hideo Nomo’s no-hitter versus Baltimore. He has developed great chemistry in the booth alongside color commentator Jerry Remy and the duo seem to have a knack for keeping their audience entertained even when viewers may have lost interest in the game itself.
Turnover with the Boston Red Sox continues, though it might not have anything to do with other recent big changes in the team’s front office. And when Remy had cancer, Orsillo had to work with a bevy of partners until he was ready to return. The Red Sox also utilize Dennis Eckersley and Jim Rice in the booth, when they’e not in the studio.
It is not yet clear who will take over Orsillo’s play-by-play duties on NESN in 2016.

He is expected to be replaced by Dave O’Brien, The Boston Globe is reporting. For three of the last four years, the Sox have been miserable, leading to plenty of games where the difference between a win and a loss was nothing more than draft positioning. Just like the Red Sox, he’s merely playing out the string the rest of the way.
