Texas couple gets married while bride is in labor

It could have been the plot of a movie: A Houston couple improvises a hospital wedding in less than an hour after the bride goes into labor early.

Stephanie Tallent and Jason Nece were attending a regularly scheduled ultrasound appointment Friday at the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women when they learned Stephanie was in labor. Nece raced to the auto to grab their marriage license, which they’d picked up the day before, and a white sun dress that was headed to the dry cleaners.

At 36 weeks, Tallent found out she was nearly halfway dilated and had to have an emergency cesarean section.

“To have her now, and to see her and just to think when I woke up this morning, I never thought that I would be getting married and having a baby today”, she added.

One staff member let the expectant mom borrow a string of pearls and another suggested that blue hospital tape could be Tallent’s “something blue”. Dr. Wagner walked Stephanie down the aisle of the clinic to the assessment room where the couple was married as a nurse played the “Wedding March” on her cell phone.

For the first time ever, Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women transformed an exam room into a wedding chapel.

Tallent and Sophia were discharged from the hospital on Monday.

“The staff threw everything together”, Nece said.

Baby Sophia Avis Marie Nece is healthy and doing well.

“An absolutely wonderful day”, Tallent said. “I keep thinking ‘Wait is this a dream?’ there’s been so much that happened so fast”.
