Max Holloway Gets Anticlimactic Win Over Charles Oliveira (Video Highlights)

On Sunday night, featherweights Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira will square off at UFC Fight Night 74 in the main event north of the border in Saskatoon.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, a UFC medical consultant said Oliveira suffered a micro-tear of his esophagus.

However, he admits that a rematch with McGregor is something he thinks about often when he is in between assigned fights.

UFC observers conjectured over the source of the injury at the time, with the neck, shoulder and throat all suspected to be possible ailments. Oliveira earlier revealed that he entered the fight with an existing injury.

“It sucked”, said Holloway. He’s fought nine times in the last 18 months and won eight of them; that’s impressive.

The UFC featherweight was rushed to the hospital right after the fight, and has yet to be released by the doctors.

Nicknamed “Do Bronx” which means the ghetto, an Oliveira match is often an event to watch as it brings action and a lot of drama. Oliveira is tied with the third-most submission wins among active UFC fighters with seven. And with just eight UFC victories total that’s called making your mark. “Saying that, “Oh I went to a decision” – because at the end of the day, I lost”.

Holloway knows the stats, and he’d be foolish not to. This fight was going to catapult the victor in the title conversation. Initial indications are positive, though, per Tom Wright, the UFC’s Managing Director for operations in Canada.
