Patriots bring in Reggie Wayne for physical, report says

The rivalry will only intensify if Wayne signs in New England, especially with a Week 6 matchup between New England and Indy looming as a possible date for Brady’s return from a four-game suspension.

After the 2014 season, Reggie Wayne’s run with the Indianapolis Colts came to an end after being a first-round draft pick back in 2001. Not only would he add depth to the receiving corps, but it’s the ultimate troll for the Patriots to throw at the Colts over this whole DeflateGate nonsense.

“He’s still really good at everything”, Belichick said in November”. “He’s been a key guy for them in critical situations and third down-type situations”.

Wayne, 36, would be competing with fellow veteran Brandon Gibson and others for a roster spot if he signed with New England. That was expected anyway, as he has been a bargain the last few seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.

ESPN and other media outlets are reporting that former Colt Reggie Wayne arrived in New England last night and is taking a physical with the Patriots on Sunday. He averaged more than 70 yards per game in 12 games against the Patriots for his career and caught five touchdowns, so Bill Belichick and Tom Brady have seen plenty of him. This could be the basis from where an offer comes, but it could also cause the team to go in a different direction.
