Sinkhole in Detroit turns into a fishing hole

Residents started putting fish into the sinkhole and now, the fish have multiplied.

Neighbors chose to populate the four-year-old hole with fish so they could enjoy it. It’s stocked wirh bluegill, goldfish and carp.

Naturally, the people of the area were bothered by the cavernous hole in their road, especially when a nearby water main broke, filling the pit with water.

An unfinished construction project has been turned into a makeshift fishing hole by Detroit residents. “This is the only block on this neighborhood that has a pond with fish in it”.

The crater on Hull Street in the state of Michigan appeared around four years ago.

Water Department officials are supposedly now investigating the problem, so the residents’ creative response and the attention it’s garnered may lead to road improvements (even if it means giving up waterfront property).

‘It’s relaxing, it’s solitude, and people come by and see the fish swim’.

“This is our pond now,” added resident Yvette Pugh.

The hole was the result of a utility job done years ago by energy company DTE Energy, according to Gregory Eno, a spokesman for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. WXYZ Detroit Residents put blue gill, goldfish and carp into the sinkhole to turn it into a local amenity.

The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department says it has no record of the work being done and no record of calls to have it addressed.

Meanwhile, the local utility company said it would send a crew over to check the situation out.
