Philips Hue Lights Get Wireless Dimmer

Philips has a great product with its Hue LED lighting system, but up to this point, it’s suffered one glaring flaw: it’s a little pricey.

Alright, so once you have chose to step into the world where lights are wirelessly controlled and bought the $40 Kit, you install it. Installation is pretty simple as there is not all that much in the first place. This means that you can now modernize your home lighting without the need to call an electrician or open up walls to access wiring; particularly useful if you rent your home. So the company is introducing another physical remote that lets you dim up to 10 of its bulbs at once.

“The Philips Hue wireless dimming kit is the lightbulb moment that will spark the natural progression into the modern, connected home”, said Leonardo Avezzano, product marketing director of Philips Hue.

Just screw in the white bulb and turn on the dimmer switch to adjust the brightness according to your preference. Philips also promises “no flickering or buzzing” for the switch, MacRumors adds (this being a common problem with “old fashioned” dimmer switches). It has on/off as well as a couple of buttons to control the brightness of the bulb. With Phillips Hue bridge, would-be users will be able to link any compatible products in their home to the new dimmer switch.

This wireless dimming kit can be used as a standalone remote though it does come with a wall plate which enables the dimmer to double as a wall switch.

The €39.95 ($45.65) Philips Hue wireless dimming kit is available next month in Europe; individual Philips Hue white bulbs will also be on sale for €19.95 ($22.79). Headquartered in the Netherlands, Philips posted 2014 sales of Euro 21.4 billion and employs approximately 106,000 employees with sales and services in more than 100 countries.
