Mets top Phillies for fifth straight win

“We’ve got a lot of weapons and that makes you unsafe”, Collins said. “If he’s 100 percent, I’d like his bat back in the lineup”, Mackanin said….

The New York Mets rebounded after a poor start from Jacob deGrom and blasted a franchise-record eight homers and scored 16 runs.

The Mets still had to record seven outs after the incident and closer Jeurys Familia recorded the final four to secure the Mets’ 10th win in 11 games against the Phillies. 500 for the first time since finishing 89-73 in 2008.

Bill Streicher/USA Today Sports Noah Syndergaard gets the win but doesn’t pitch particularly well.

Flores’ three-run drive to left gave the Mets an 8-7 lead in the fifth. Travis d’Arnaud homered. Michael Cuddyer doubled… then Morgan snuck out of further trouble with the help of reliever Hector Neris.

Before Monday night, Mets third baseman David Wright had last hit a home run on April 10.

Charlie Blackmon led off the game with a homer and Ben Paulsen connected to start the second inning, but Teheran (9-6) allowed just two other hits in 7 1/3 innings.

Ryan Howard and Domonic Brown each hit a three-run homer, and Cameron Rupp also took deGrom deep. “There’s some things I need to do better”. Injured LHP CC Sabathia said he thinks he can return in September. “Jumping on deGrom for seven runs was special”. Williams has a 6.10 earned run average on the season, opening the door for a risky run line bet – you have to win by two or more runs – to look attractive.

The Phillies and Mets have three more games at Citizen’s Bank Park from Tuesday-Thursday, so Andersen is in for a rough couple of days if New York continues to thrive.

And now, he’s back for the stretch run and can (very clearly) give the Mets much-needed middle-of-the-order pop. For the night, Wright would end up batting 2-for-5.

Wright went 0-for-4 Tuesday night and failed to cleanly field a grounder, though it was not scored an error.

Eovaldi and Feldman each went eight innings. He struck out four, didn’t walk anyone, and allowed just three hits. “But I haven’t seen anything like that”.

It has been a long season for David Wright. The Phillies went down 1-2-3 in the ninth. He walked two batters, including one that became the tying run in the top of the sixth inning.

Since going 3-6 in their first nine games after the All-Star break, the Mets have gone 19-8.

Fourteen Reds batted in the inning against four Detroit pitchers.

Wright’s first test will come on Monday night against Philadelphia and he’ll rejoin the Mets amidst their push for the postseason, where he and the team haven’t been since 2006.

The Athletics climbed out of a big hole against Hisashi Iwakuma (5-3), who was yanked after the visitors pulled ahead 7-5 on Valencia’s two-run blast.

Medlen, who returned last month after his second Tommy John surgery, made seven appearances out of the Kansas City bullpen before replacing Jeremy Guthrie in the starting rotation.

This for a guy who last season posted a 3-1 mark with a 2.39 ERA in 52⅔ innings pitched. What might even be better is the offense is clicking at a high enough level in which it can properly complement what the pitching staff has done all season. They had 13 extra-base hits at Arizona on August. 24, 2005.
