Inmates at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center, one of ten such jails in the city prison system, had a chance on August 24 to show off the unfinished chair while in its final stages.
Inmates in Philadelphia are making a chair for Pope Francis ahead of his upcoming visit with prisoners in September.
At a prison workshop on Monday, inmates worked to sand and refinish the wooden chair, which stands nearly 6 feet tall.
“We are delighted and grateful that our partners at the Philadelphia Prison System have taken it upon themselves to devote their time and energy into crafting this attractive chair that will certainly be a welcome present for Pope Francis as he meets with inmates and their families”, said Donna Crilley Farrell, Executive Director of the World Meeting of Families, in a press release.
Selection for the program is based on behavior and work ethic. He meets frequently with inmates and has washed prisoners’ feet during pre-Easter rituals. “So I’m happy”. Officials say the online guide will answer questions about transportation and other services, especially for those who live inside restricted areas.

The pontiff is scheduled to visit Philadelphia on 26-27 September for the World Meeting of Families, a triennial Catholic conference focused on strengthening family bonds. It can be found on the website of the World Meeting of Families, which the pope is attending.
