Wilson is survived by his wife, Julia, and two children who attend school in Longmont.
Wilson was unconscious when he was transported by helicopter after the crash to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he was in a coma.
Tragic IndyCar driver Justin Wilson saved 6 lives through organs donated following his death, his brother revealed on Tuesday, August 25. “He’s my friend. I have no details right now, so it’s a bit hard not knowing anything”, Hunter-Reay said, via USA Today. He is the first driver to die in a major U.S.-based race since Dan Wheldon in 2011. “Say a prayer for him and his family, hopefully he’s in a better place”, said driver Gabby Chaves.
Wilson died after suffering a head injury caused by a piece of debris from another auto on the Pennsylvania track on Sunday.
Justin Wilson’s death has left the IndyCar world in mourning, but it seems there is a silver lining to the tragedy. It was no surprise: The 6-foot-4 Wilson, easily the tallest in the series, was well liked.
Wilson competed in 11 races in Formula One for Minardi in 2003 before taking part in the final five grands prix of the campaign for Jaguar. In a lawsuit against IndyCar, the woman said her skull was fractured. She contends she fell backward and hit her head after she was struck by debris.
In 2011, the Englishman broke his back in a wreck at Mid-Ohio and suffered a broken pelvis and bruised lung in the IndyCar series finale in 2013 at Fontana.
Justin and Elliot shot a public service announcement video for the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana, which is a sponsor for Elliot’s go-kart. Karam come about from his vehicle under his very own ability. “Now this will be looked at it and addressed appropriately”.
Racers, he said, know there are two things out of their control: equipment failures and being caught up in someone else’s mistake.
Wilson was struck by another car’s crashed nose cone, essentially running into a flying piece of steel at more than 200 miles per hour.
Justin Wilson adjusts his earplugs prior to practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on May 17, 2012.
Wilson’s death will hopefully be the catalyst of change that is needed to better protect drivers in cars with exposed cockpits.

“The high speed ovals certainly represent the greatest risk because of the speed, because of the concrete wall and lately because of the closeness of the racing, which is far closer than it is in Formula One“, Bobby Rahal told Reuters a year ago. “It’s the unfortunate risk of our product”.
