Watch Out, Twitch: YouTube Gaming Set to Launch with Upgraded Live-Streaming

Google will launch the YouTube Gaming platform on Wednesday – a new portal dedicated to videos focused on gaming.

YouTube Gaming will be available on the web (at gaming.youtube.com) as well as for Android devices from Google Play and iOS via Apple’s iTunes. This can be likened to YouTube Live Broadcast where anyone who owns a Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S6 edge can broadcast videos “live” which can then be watched on YouTube directly.

There’s not much else to report at this stage, though we’ll be keeping an eye on how the launch pans out.

Twitch is extremely popular these days.

The service will centre around a hub that curates live and prerecorded gaming content tailored to users’ viewing preferences.

Shortly after, YouTube announced they were launching their own game streaming service.

On the other hand, YouTube’s gaming content has started to thrive.

One functionality you will have with YouTube gaming that you can not do on Twitch now is to enable DVR mode as the streamer.

It’ll be interesting to see how it does compared to Twitch. The site and mobile app specifically caters to gaming enthusiasts; for example, searching for “Call” won’t autocomplete with “Call Me Maybe”, but “Call of Duty” instead.

“The opportunity in gaming video is enormous, and others have clearly taken notice”, Twitch senior vp marketing Matthew DiPietro said in a statement. This new partition from YouTube will apparently help in enhancing the user experience for gamers. Streams and videos are encoded in HTML5, something Twitch just recently adopted.
