Michael Vick to meet with Steelers

Michael Vick is reportedly on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ radar. I don’t remember Vick’s past being an issue in his latter years with the Eagles or his recent stint with the Jets.

After Ben Roethlisberger’s backup Bruce Gradkowski dislocated a finger in his left hand in Sunday’s preseason win against the Green Bay Packers, the Steelers entered the market for another signal caller.

Vick signed with the Jets last season, but failed to beat out Geno Smith in training camp.

The Steelers, who cut former Jets quarterback Tajh Boyd earlier this summer, still have quarterback Landry Jones as a possible backup.

You nearly get the feeling that Vick would still like to be on a roster, but that he doesn’t want the pressure of having to start or worrying about getting injured and having to rehab the injury. He finished with three touchdown passes and two interceptions. They have named Brian Hoyer their man over Ryan Mallett, but it’s hard to imagine Vick not giving those two some more competition. If Vick sees playing time this year, he probably won’t be the fleet-footed, tailback-like player we saw flashes of when he was at the peak of his career. If that’s the case, the Eagles’ cross-state rivals would be an nearly ideal fit for Vick.
