Burger King to McDonald’s: Let’s make a McWhopper
To draw attention to its gambit, the company took out full-page advertisements Wednesday in the New York Times and Chicago Tribune, the hometown paper for Oak Brook, Illinois-based McDonald’s.

All proceeds from the burger sales would go to Peace One Day, an organization that has been working toward making World Peace Day an internationally recognized day when nations around the globe agree to lay down their weapons for a day of nonviolence in a global cease fire. The only sticking point might be the name, with Burger King getting its Whopper in there, but no Big Mac. Burger King described the pop-up eatery as “a purpose-built restaurant in neutral territory, where McDonald’s and Burger King staff can come together to prepare, package and serve our limited edition burger”.
The proposed mashup of the Big Mac and Whopper would include elements of each, such as flame-broiled beef patty and a middle bun, according to a website Burger King set up. 21 as the day to celebrate world peace, and Burger King proposed opening a pop-up store in a parking lot between two restaurants in Atlanta, halfway between Burger King’s headquarters in Miami and McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago.
Burger King says it thinks the McWhopper can bring a one-day “cease-fire” in the burger wars, along with promoting the efforts of Peace One Day.
Burger King, a division of the Warren Buffett-backed Restaurant Brands global Inc., has also mocked up hybrid employee uniforms and packaging for the burgers. “Naturally we’ll only proceed if you’re on board, so we created this site to help you better understand our proposal and realize the potential”.
McDonald’s is yet to comment on their rival’s bold proposal.
Will Burger King’s marketing ploy work? McDonald’s famously stopped using Heinz ketchup when 3G bought the company, and Burger King has suggested using it on the McWhopper.

The event would be held on September 21, known as World Peace Day.
