“I think, as we get closer to game week, we’re certainly gonna have to decide how we’re gonna go about the reps at all those positions”, Flood said.

Rutgers senior WR Leonte Carroo has been suspended for the first half of the season opener against Norfolk State for a curfew violation, according to Joe Schad. The two have been competing for the top job since the spring.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood is taking longer than expected to choose his starting quarterback.

With Laviano out for the first half on September 5, Rettig, a transfer from LSU and former 4-star recruit out of Cathedral High School in Los Angeles, was named the opening day starter by default. He sat out the 2014 season due to NCAA transfer rules and has three seasons of eligibility starting in 2015. The Edison native and one-time star at North Jersey power Don Bosco Prep opted against entering his name into the NFL Draft following his junior season after catching 55 passes for 1,086 yards and 10 touchdowns. “I’m just going to stick to this situation”. Peele was suspended after he was arrested on simple assault charges in August. of 2014.

“I had a chance to prevent things from happening and I allowed it to happen”, Carroo said. “So, I take full responsibility with me being a captain and the leader of this team”.

Hayden Rettig, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound sophomore, will get the start in place of Laviano. “We still come out here everyday, you work to the best of your ability to make sure you do everything correctly and just because he’s not able to play that first half, you know, why should my preparation change?” The charges were eventually dropped.

Laviano said Flood and his teammates were disappointed in his decision. “Like I said, I think both quarterbacks were very sharp tonight”.

Flood and Carroo said they think the players on the team are mostly responsible. “I’m going about football the same way”.
