Upon arrival, a sheriff’s deputy found the man dead and signs of a struggle.
By the time he was taken into custody in Vincent’s shooting death, Daigle had been well known by law enforcement across Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes in southwest Louisiana. “Kill someone”. The man was trying to unclasp the trooper’s handgun. “Here’s a guy who’s given 13 years to the Louisiana State Police”.
Authorities plan to charge the accused shooter with first-degree murder after the death of Senior Trooper Steven Vincent, 43.
Meanwhile, authorities are hailing as a hero the good Samaritan who helped capture Kevin Daigle, the 54-year-old Lake Charles-area man accused in the trooper’s slaying.
Gov. Bobby Jindal has issued an executive order calling for state buildings to fly flags at half-staff until Friday.
He describes Vincent as “an honorable husband, father and state trooper who courageously served our state for over a decade”.
“Brave men and women like Steven put their lives in danger every day to protect our families, and we are extremely grateful to them for keeping us safe”.
“As an organization, we are heartbroken over this senseless and tragic death”, Edmonson said.
At a news conference broadcast live by KPLC-TV, Edmonson said, “Nobody wore this badge more proudly than Steven Vincent“.
He said the tape shows the shotgun blast. “He loved everything about it. And that’s what we celebrate today”, Edmonson said.
He says LeDoux then used Vincent’s radio to say an officer was down and in urgent need of help.
Police launched LeDoux at a information convention earlier Monday however he didn’t converse to reporters on the time. Edmonson shook hands with him, then hugged him.
Vincent, 43, is in critical condition after the shooting in Lake Charles on Sunday, said Col. Mike Edmonson, superintendent of Louisiana State Police.
This is a hero, Edmonson said of Robert LeDoux of Iowa, Louisiana, a town of about 3,100 where one of Vincents brothers is police chief. He was a veteran local enforcer when he joined the state of police in 2003. He was under arrest at a hospital, where he was being treated for scrapes and other injuries sustained while the other motorists subdued him.

As police continued to gather evidence at Brewer’s house, Louisiana State Police offered somber details of when and where they’ll bury one of their own. Vincent was critically injured Sunday afternoon, August 23, 2015, after authorities say he was shot in the head during a traffic stop in Calcasieu Parish, La. The nonprofit Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office will handle Daigle’s defense, sheriff’s spokeswoman Kim Myers said.
