‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff in the Works
While you might think that he’d be consumed with his next series for US TV network FX (medieval drama The Bastard Executioner), Kurt Sutter is not completely ready to leave his previous show, Sons Of Anarchy, behind.

A spinoff makes a lot of sense for FX, since “Sons of Anarchy” was their most popular show before it ended in December 2014.
Mayans president Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera) in Sons of Anarchy. The predominant rumor, which has been confirmed by Kurt Sutter, is that a prequel could eventually happen. On Sons, the Mayans were positioned as a rival California motorcycle club, comprising mostly Mexican-Americans in the heroin distribution business.
It’s unclear if the proposed Mayans series would take place in the present or in the past, but Sutter won’t be working on it directly.
Sutter had previously teased the idea of doing an SoA prequel as recently as last month at Comic-Con, possibly as a limited series. That’s still to be decided, along with any potential premiere date, assuming the series makes it through development.
The Mayans project would be produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
Would you watch a Sons of Anarchy spin-off?
Few details are known about the untitled Sons spin-off, but we hope to see the return of some familiar faces.
Using the Mayans as the center of the upcoming series would give him a logical way to incorporate other “Sons” characters, several of whom were still alive at the end. Sutter and team have not yet locked in a writer to help spearhead the project as Sutter is consumed by Bastard, for which he serves as a creator, writer, producer, director and, yes, actor.
