10-run inning carries Cincinnati Reds past Detroit Tigers

The Reds will try to break out of that funk when they host the similarly-slumping Detroit Tigers on Monday in the makeup of a game that was rained out on June 18. Martinez’s 33rd home run – a two-run shot – and Nick Castellanos’ 14th, a solo blast.

Then after a Joey Votto walk, Phillips hit his 10th home run of the season to make it 5-3, and Tigers manager Brad Ausmus pulled Farmer to bring in Al Alburquerque. Suarez kicked off the Reds’ 10-run sixth inning with a solo home run. He hit his ninth home run of the season in the fifth inning and is hitting. “And I’m going to attempt to proceed it for the subsequent 38 video games or nevertheless many we’ve received”. 298 (139-for-466) with 64 runs scored, 27 doubles, 9 triples, 11 residence runs and 66 RBIs.

The victory snaps a nine-game losing strueak for the Reds (52-71) while the Tigers (59-65) have now lost four in a row.

The rally started with a familiar face to Tigers fans as Eugenio Suarez hit a one-out home run for the Reds first run. “I did not need to make two outs in the inning”.

“It was a good way to do it, to come back and fight back”, Schumaker said.

At that point, Farmer’s day was done – he threw 4 1/3 hitless innings to start – but as manager Brad Ausmus signaled to his bad bullpen, the Reds were just getting started. “Nice to see some smiles in here, for sure”.

Cincinnati loaded the bases with one out against Tom Gorzelanny.

“Suarez sparked us”, Reds’ manager Bryan Price said of the shortstop that got a chance at the big leagues due to an injury to Zach Cozart. “Guys took advantage of some mistakes”.

After intentionally walking Votto, Phillips tripled to right, giving the Reds a 10-5 lead. Cabrera added a pair of singles Sunday that raised his season’s average to.367.

“If anyone deserves a day off, it is him”, Ausmus said of Kinsler, who has a seven-game hitting streak.

That may be the case, but he’s not the same player who provided ideal protection for Miguel Cabrera from the cleanup spot last season, when he hit. Detroit will turn to its own rookie starter when Buck Farmer goes up against Keyvius Sampson of the Reds on Monday.

While Martinez launched a missile, Castellanos’ homer two batters later was a majestic fly to left, making the score 4-0.

Skip Schumaker would not miss his opportunity to keep the big inning alive as he scored two runs on an opposite field single in his second at bat of the inning.

Reds: LHP Tony Cingrani lasted just three innings for Triple-A Louisville on Sunday in his second start since coming off the seven-day disabled list with a right (non-throwing) shoulder strain. He struck out Martinez to end the inning, his fifth strikeout in four innings, on his 100th pitch. An inning later, Farmer could only watch from the bench as Cincinnati pounded out hit after hit.
