Devin Funchess Injury: Updates on Panthers WR’s Hamstring and Return

Past year Benjamin had 73 catches for 1,008 yards and nine touchdowns.

Ian Rapoport from NFL.com was the first to break the bad news on Twitter regarding the full extent of the second-year wide receiver’s injury.

Aikens lined up with the first-team defense at practice Thursday after starting in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears when Delmas was held out of the game. “He’s worked tremendously hard to put himself in a positon to have a strong year”.

The 24-year-old wide receiver headed to Charlotte for a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which later revealed a torn ACL that will make him miss the entire season.

‘You’ve got to realize he’s our No 1 guy.

Philbin said he and Rivera took measures before practices to make sure players were getting the message, calling them together in a group near midfield. Delmas suddenly collapsed to the ground during the play, grabbing his right knee – the same knee in which he tore the ACL in December.

The injury came in non-contact fashion during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers. “It’s unfortunate. It’s one of those things that could have happened in any drill”.

Among the other receivers who may benefit is Jarrett Boykin, who is new to the Panthers after three seasons of catching passes from Aaron Rodgers with the Green Bay Packers. Not having your No 1 guy on the practice field, it hurts you a little bit. Still, and I repeat, the Carolina Panthers can not be overlooked due to one player missing. “I believe we have the guys in the room that can catch the balls and get open and pick up some of the slack that we’ll have to pick up”.

Rivera says Funchess’ high football IQ will soften the slope of his learning curve.

Now I know the Panthers are defensive-minded team which likes to run the football and they excel in that role, but the lack of any real threats on the outside is now a huge problem for the team.

Both coaches acknowledged there will probably be some heated moments, but players have to control themselves and not let their emotions get out of hand. “We feel real good about who we have right now”.

“It’s awesome, because we don’t get to see them very often”, said Diane Petrice, a Dolphins fan from Fountain Inn. I had already thought that Brown was going to be the starter opposite Benjamin, because he was the ideal complement to him, so now it should be nearly guaranteed that he will start.
