Roberto Martinez described Chelsea target John Stones’ display in Everton’s 0-0 Premier League draw at Tottenham as “immense”, believing the centre-half to be a future England captain.

Martinez reiterated Everton’s stance that Stones is not for sale after Chelsea had three bids refused and claims the player “accepts” the club’s position.

Speculation of a Chelsea move for France midfielder Paul Pogba continues as the transfer deadline approaches, but Mourinho again declined to comment. It ” s been a rollercoaster of emotions and I don’t think it’s fair that any player should have to go through that while having to perform.

“I was happy with Harry”, the Argentinian said.

“(The Stones saga) shows that the richest clubs can not simply click their fingers and get whatever they want“, Martinez said yesterday.

“It would be fair to say Chelsea are not quite in the groove [they were in] when we played them last time“. That keeps happening. I’m watching other clubs have the same issue. “Pogba is one of the top players in the world”. But considering the amount the Premier League team is bidding on a number of their hopeful transfers, Juventus are thinking of a backup in case they lose Pogba.

In the end Everton showed their extra class, fitness, strength, pace and power but I’m not sure they would have been able to do that with the eleven that started the game. “It’s not nice when you see your team-mates going off injured”.

Chelsea face a serious problem to bolster their squad forward of the shut of the switch window, after Everton insisted they might not half with John Stones.

Anyone can tell you how much Stones would benefit from a move, but Everton had every right to be furious with Cahill.

“That’s the thing that immediately comes to the mind of someone analysing the situation”. It’s not what we want but four points is not a drama.

“Ramiro was in the building yesterday, we hope that we’re going to complete the deal sometime today”, the Everton boss claimed. We will never know.

“To be able to get through that with only a minor injury has us thanking the luck we had”.

“When you are five points behind the leader in another league, that can be complicated”.
