8 people in 4 vehicles involved in fatal crash

A four-car pileup along Interstate 94 near Albertville killed one person and injured four others among the eight people involved, authorities said. It was triggered by a rear-end collision involving slowing traffic.

Ten-year-old Elizabeth Sabourin, who was in the auto with Bateman, suffered serious injuries. He also did not suffer any injuries.

Bateman’s mother was driving the auto at the time. Traffic, in the background, may be seen being diverted off the freeway as officers closed off the street.

The four vehicles involved include a Chevrolet HHR, a Cadillac VLU, a Hyundai EGM and a Hyundai Elantra.

The driver of one of the other cars, 59-year-old Ronald Johnson of Red Wing, sustained non life-threatening injuries.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the crash happened at around 1:30 p.m. on eastbound I-94 near the County Road 19 exit.

A 10-year-old girl, also from Manitoba, was seriously hurt and taken to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.
