Bucs deal tight end Tim Wright again, this time for rookie kicker

Editor’s note: This story was updated at 10:07 a.m. with the news Detroit gave up Kyle Brindza in the trade. The terms of the trade weren’t immediately available, but they’re not likely to get more than a late-round pick for Wright.

This marks the second consecutive season Wright has been traded, as the Bucs traded Wright to the New England Patriots in June 2014 for Pro Bowl offensive lineman Logan Mankins. Wright has played in 32 games, making 80 catches for 830 yards and 11 touchdowns. Wright came into the league as receiver and was converted to tight end.

Wright originally joined the Bucs as an undrafted free agent out of Rutgers in 2013 and had an unexpectedly great rookie season, putting up 571 yards and five touchdowns on 54 catches in a highly dysfunctional offense. He was then claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay.

Last season, tight ends were responsible for two Lions touchdowns – Fauria and Ebron each had one. It began with him “tripping over a puppy” and injuring his ankle. The tweet was quickly deleted from Fauria’s Facebook account, but still lives in the world of cyberspace.

Both Detroit and Tampa Bay will wrap up their preseason schedules on Thursday, with the Lions taking on the Buffalo Bills and the Bucs squaring off against the Miami Dolphins. The Lions have not officially announced the move, but it isn’t much of a surprise.
