Jets place Jace Amaro on injured reserve
Tight end Jace Amaro needs surgery on his left shoulder and will be placed on season-ending injured reserve, coach Todd Bowles announced Tuesday.

Amaro, who suffered a shoulder injury in the preseason opener at Detroit, was the Jets’ second-round selection out of Texas Tech previous year. He hasn’t practiced since the injury.
In 2014, former Jets general manager John Idzik drafted Amaro to add firepower to an impotent offense that ranked 29th in the previous season.
Amaro being out is a huge blow to the Jets.
As a rookie, Amaro had 38 receptions for 345 total yards and two touchdowns. The 23-year-old figured to give the Jets a legitimate pass-catching tight end in his sophomore campaign, but quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and/or Geno Smith now will need to look elsewhere.

Jeff Cumberland, Kellen Davis, Arthur Lynch and Wes Saxton are the remaining tight ends on the Jets’ 75-man roster.
