Louisiana driver allegedly shoots trooper
Steven Vincent was a member of the State Police for 13 years and was an Army veteran. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tony Mancuso said authorities originally went to the house Sunday evening because the vehicle Daigle was driving was registered there.

Daigle’s roommate was found dead in their home Monday.
Detectives with the sheriff’s office were back at the crime scene Tuesday morning, gathering evidence. The victim’s name was not immediately released.
“We are just now processing the scene”, Mancuso said.
“He’s really a hero to us”, Anderson said.
Daigle was booked on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated battery of a police officer.
The state police superintendent, Col. Michael D. Edmonson, described Senior Trooper Steven J. Vincent’s death as “senseless and tragic”.
Edmonson said several passing motorists stopped, scuffled with Daigle, 54, seized the gun and finally handcuffed him.
According to Fox News, Edmonson said Daigle had “numerous DWIs” and other arrests.
State Police say the Vincent family and Troopers from across the state have been touched by the incredible outpouring of support received from across the nation and around the world.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Robert LeDoux said he said he could see “pure evil” in the suspect’s eyes.
Vincent then told the driver that help was on the way to get the truck out of the ditch, Edmonson said.
Police introduced LeDoux at a news conference earlier Monday but he did not speak to reporters at the time. Edmonson shook hands with him and then hugged him.
The details of the cold-blooded murder will make your blood boil: “Col. Mike Edmonson, head of the State Police, said Kevin Daigle shot …” Edmonson says all four are heroes. I watched that shotgun blast.
After the shooting, he said, Daigle wandered into the road and over to Vincent, asking if he was alive. “You’re going to die soon”, he said the man told the trooper. But remember too that some anonymous citizen may be standing nearby to help you win and go home at the end of your tour. “You’re lucky – you’re going to die soon.’ That’s the words that came out of his mouth”, Edmonson said.
As far as he knew, he said, the good Samaritans were unhurt. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his surviving wife, Katherine, and his son Ethan as well as his entire extended family”, including two brothers who are also in law enforcement: Terrell Vincent, who’s also a trooper, and Keith Vincent, who’s chief of police in Iowa, Louisiana.
Vincent succumbed to his injuries Monday.

Police suspect Daigle was under the influence of alcohol and “at least one other type of drug”, Edmonson said Monday.
