Louis police chief: Autopsy shows 18-year-old killed by officers was shot

“Just because he was shot in the back doesn’t mean he was running away”, Dotson said, according to the Post-Dispatch.

Dotson said four guns, including the handgun wielded by the dead suspect, and crack cocaine were recovered at or near the home, which past year yielded illegal guns during a police search.

Jermaine Wooten, an attorney for Ball-Bey’s family, said witnesses and family members told him the teen was unarmed.

The two police officers involved in the shooting are white and in their late 20s and early 30s. Within an hour of Wednesday’s shooting, more than 100 people converged on the scene, taunting officers and decrying the use of deadly force.

At least nine people were arrested in the St. Louis demonstration, with protesters reporting that police began firing smoke and tear gas without warning.

The examiner, Dr. Michael A. Graham, says that despite the bullet wound to the back, other physical evidence will have to be examined before conclusions could be drawn. Police also claimed they gave Guy a verbal warning before the fatal shot, but police and District Attorney’s Office investigative files clearly report that no warning of any kind was given, and in fact Jorstad told investigators he sneaked up on Guy.

“Our goal was to keep people safe”, Dotson said. Police say officers shot Powell when he approached them with a knife. “But when” Ball-Bey “turns toward” one officer “with a gun that has an extended clip with a 30-round magazine, the policemen have no choice but to pull the trigger”.

An autopsy and Justice Department investigation indicated that Brown likely did not have his hands raised when he was shot by then-Ferguson police Officer Darren Wilson, who is white. Thursday’s vigil was peaceful following a night of unrest on Wednesday, when officers reported they had been targeted with bricks and bottles and used tear gas to disperse angry crowds, said a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman.

The chief said the autopsy results did not confirm or disprove this suggestion, according to a report of his remarks in the St Louis Post-Dispatch.

Investigations in Bell-Bey’s death are ongoing.

The crime rate is high there, Dotson said.

The St. Louis Circuit Attorney is reviewing the case to see if there was a criminal violation of Missouri law.

JERUSALEM – Militants in Syria fired several rockets into northern Israel on Thursday afternoon, prompting Israeli retaliatory fire, the military said – the first time since the 1973 Mideast war that rockets from Syrian territory have slammed into Israel.

Activists said the police response was unnecessarily “militaristic” and an affront to free-speech rights. “We are completely different”, Joyce told media.”We all want the same thing, so let’s work together on this”. He noted that city workers were cutting brush and trees in the area, something he said he had been pushing for a long time.
