Bryan Cranston is Unrecognizable as LBJ in HBO’s ‘All the Way’

From sarcastic suburban dads to ruthless drug kingpins, Cranston’s career is as rich and varied as they come, and in today’s first look at project, the actor is nearly unrecognizable in the role of the “accidental president”.

“Physically and emotionally Bryan completely channels LBJ”.

“We just filmed him and Lady Bird in the Oval Office, after JFK’s assassination”, Roach said.

All the Way is produced for HBO by Amblin Television, Tale Told Productions and Moonshot Entertainment, with Steven Spielberg, Robert Schenkkan, Jay Roach, Bryan Cranston, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey (“Extant”, “The Americans”) executive producing and James Degus (“Sneaky Pete“) co-executive producing. In The Hollywood Reporter’s recent cover story on Cranston, the actor spoke about portraying the “bigger-than life character” in the HBO film. Director Jay Roach is no stranger to political films for HBO, as he has previously directed the HBO original movie Game Change.

Honestly, Cranston looks more like a carefully-crafted action figure than anything else, but his resemblance to Johnson is uncanny. In spiritual support, Lady Bird touches his cheek. At the end of six seasons playing the meth dealer White in Breaking Bad Cranston took on the role of Johnson in the same-named Broadway play.

Cranston received a Tony award for his performance as Johnson in 2014 and All The Way itself won for Best Play. LBJ was the President who passed the Civil Rights Act before going up for reelection later in 1964 and winning it in a landslide.

The cast also features Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Melissa Leo as Lady Bird Johnson, Bradley Whitford as Hubert Humphrey and Stephen Root as J. Edgar Hoover.
