“By partnering with Amazon to deliver HDR content on LG’s OLED TV, we are confident we can deliver the best viewing experience available on a TV today for HDR con-tent”, said Lee Inkyu, senior vice president and head of the TV and monitor division at LG’s Home Entertainment Co.
HDR promises better contrast levels, a more dynamic picture and better brightness.
Combined with LG’s OLED TVs, which deliver more vibrant colors than liquid crystal display TVs, the HDR technology will offer a great viewing experience for consumers, according to the Seoul-headquartered firm.
An exact release date for the HDR network update has not been announced, but the upgrade will arrive before the end of the year.
Flat and curved 4K Ultra HD OLED TVs in LG’s 2015 OLED lineup have joined select Samsung TVs in streaming Amazon’s HDR titles, which use the SMPTE 2084/2086 HDR standard.
The company announced that Amazon Original Series Transparent and Mozart in the Jungle as well as the pilot episode of the upcoming comedy series Red Oaks are available for the aforementioned TV models.
LG is getting in on the high dynamic range (HDR) action. The company has partnered with several broadcasters and content providers to demo their content on 4K Oled TVs. “Amazon has played an invaluable role in helping LG bring consumers the best way to enjoy streaming content and an incredible HDR experience”. Now that nearly all TV flagships are shipping with 4K UHD resolutions, the focus now has been to add HDR capabilities, either built-in or through software updates.
