Coast Guard Auxiliary plane crashes in Cresskill

The crash occurred near Regan Field behind the Cresskill Swim Club early Thursday evening. The two passengers were injured but are expected to survive. The U.S. Coast Guard said this plane was an Auxiliary Aircraft flown by USCG volunteers. Their conditions were unknown.

Sources said the two occupants were conscious and alert but had suffered non-life threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.

No one on the ground was hurt, but some observers expressed relief that the plane did not strike a more populated section of the area. Moments later, he reported that he had a complete engine failure.

A small plane crash-landed in Cresskill, NJ this afternoon.

It was not immediately clear what sort of damage the cabin of the plane, which crashed into a line of trees separating the soccer field from apartments, had sustained. They were patrolling the Hudson River at the time, according to the Cresskill police chief.

The plane’s pilot let Laguardia Airport know there were problems and was apparently given priority landing at Teterboro Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
