T Kiran, who cops suspect to be around 30, was caught late on Thursday night in Mumbai. The police is in the process of studying closed circuit television (CCTV) camera footage to nab the accused.
CCTV images show the alleged thief starting the bike while a showroom employee watches, picking up speed and vanishing into traffic.
Kiran’s father who lives in Hyderabad has served in the army. “Kiran was in shock when the police swooped down on him and grabbed him in Mumbai since he thought he had made good his escape”, said an official.
On September 1, Kiran, posing himself as a customer named Tahir Ali visited the showroom and filled the pro forma for test-drive, police had earlier said.
He went to an ATM to withdraw money.

The complaint was filed in the Banjara Hills region, under the Sections 379 (theft) and Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code, the police officer Santosh said. They are trying to find out why a man with his educational and work profile would attempt a heist like this.
